Project Description:
In the winter of 1999 and early spring of 2000, SWAG designed a planting plan for a riparian mitigation resulting from the construction of the new Turtle Bay Pedestrian Bridge. A total of 3.1 acres of Great Valley Mixed Riparian Forest was planted along Sulphur Creek. Willow, cottonwood, oak, ash, and sycamore trees were planted at a density of 100 – 110 trees/woody shrubs per acre. SWAG incorporated several different planting techniques and research trials into the mitigation project. The planting techniques included container planting, bare root planting, rooted cuttings, direct seeding, pole planting, salvaging and transplanting. Research trials included drip irrigation vs. non-irrigation, and survivability of cottonwood root wads and boles (trunks).
